The Survo-Korpela allotment garden in Jyväskylä, Finland, serves as a meeting point where cultural backgrounds come together through shared joy of gardening. This year, excessive rain and pest problems have posed the biggest challenges.
Local gardeners, like Sharwat Yarti, who grows herbs and vegetables, and Ramamba Mbiyambiye, who cultivates plants such as lenga lenga and ngayingayi, find delight in their work and build bonds with fellow horticulturists. The garden not only provides fresh produce but also fosters social connections. From the satisfaction of harvesting homegrown melons to moments of singing or dancing, the garden becomes a cherished space for connection and recreation. 2023.
